Crossroads Village Turns 50 With Free Admission and Fireworks

If you haven't been out to Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad in a while, August 29 could be a pretty great excuse to go back in time. Crossroads Village is celebrating 50 years in 2026, and the Genesee County attraction is marking the milestone with a special community celebration.

Crossroads Village Celebrates 50 Years

The Saturday event is packed with things to do, including games, food trucks, local vendors and family activities according to Genesee County Parks. There's also a village parade at 2 p.m. And then there's the big finish, fireworks! Even better, Genesee County residents can get free village-only admission during the celebration.

The anniversary celebration is about more than just Crossroads Village's history. It's also part of a yearlong milestone recognizing 50 years of Crossroads Village and 250 years of America.

Travel Back in Time at Crossroads Village

The village offers visitors a chance to step away from modern life and experience an authentic Great Lakes town reminiscent of the turn of the last century.

There are 34 historic structures to explore, along with artisans demonstrating traditional trades and plenty of old-fashioned charm.

Huckleberry Railroad Still Steals the Show

Of course, you can't talk about Crossroads Village without mentioning the Huckleberry Railroad. This summer, the rebuilt diesel Engine #12 pulls the train on Thursdays. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Engine #152, a coal-fired locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, takes over.

The narrow-gauge railroad's collection includes 11 original and replica wooden coaches, plus the classic red wooden caboose. Visitors can also catch a performance at the Colwell Opera House while exploring the village.
