Famous Hot Dog Eating Champ Stops at East Lansing’s New Weiner Shop
Any East Lansing college student knows after lots of partying... er, studying. Definitely studying... you need late night snacks or sometimes early morning tailgate food.
So, a couple college friends decided to open up a new wiener shop to scratch that itch. It turns out, world famous hot dog eater Joey Chestnut approves.
East Lansing's New Hot Dog Joint
University Weiner is offering up "the original deep fried weiner." These aren't just any dogs. The flavors are uniquely crafted with your choice of a Koegel Vienna, 100% Beef Small Weiner (or 1/4lb option) or a "Plant Weiner" for the veggie lovers. They even offer a gluten free bun.
Clearly, this isn't your standard hot dog stand. Standard toppings like ketchup, mayo, mustard or BBQ are free. Crazy toppings you'll crave are only a little extra.
- Meats like: Pulled Pork, Bacon or Chili
- Mac 'n Cheese
- Neon Relish (the stuff that looks like it's glowing -- keep it off my weiner haha), regular relish or a pickle spear.
- Veggies like tomatoes, Sautéed Onions, Sautéed Peppers or slaw
- Even shredded cheese or Crushed BBQ Lays (sounds amazing)
They have themed dogs like the Spartan Sizzler, a game day special. That has bacon, creme cheese, hot sauce and sautéed peppers & onion.
Joey Chestnut tries a University Weiner
Looks like the owners found Joey one night on the street. Chestnut said, "That's a damn good hot dog... a good weiner."
There's no better endorsement than one from a world-famous hot dog eating champ.
It's the creativity behind the shop that will definitely get attention. Here's a homemade video they did -- the bloopers at the end will get you.
University Weiner Location and Hours
The new hot dog joint is located at 551 E Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI, 48823. It officially opens August 19th.
Right now, the hours listed on their online ordering website are:
- Monday through Friday 8am-11am and 2pm - 2:30am
- Saturday & Sunday 8am-11am and 2pm - 2:30am
Definitely the style and hours of a giant, hungry college town.
