The announcement was made on social media, stating that the theatre will close in mid-September. The statement cited several factors that contributed to the decision to close.

A year-long shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by the actors’ and writers’ strikes, left us with limited film availability for the next 18 months. We worked hard to regain financial stability, but today’s economic realities have been too great for our small family theatre to overcome.
Since COVID, moviegoers’ habits have shifted toward streaming and premium on-demand options. We have seen this change at the Romeo Theatre, and theatres nationwide have experienced similar attendance declines.

We certainly wish the Fruchey family and the Romeo Theatre the best. Thank you for 40 years of movies in Michigan.
