Michigan Woman Falls From Boat in Bahamas and Disappears
A Michigan woman is missing after falling off a small boat in the Bahamas over the weekend.
What started as a search and rescue has now shifted to a recovery effort as crews continue looking for her.
At this point, no one is accusing her husband of anything, but some people are saying this needs a closer look.
Here’s what we know.
Michigan Woman Falls Overboard in Bahamas Boat Incident
According to Fox 2 Detroit, Lynette Hooker, 56, was on an 8-foot dinghy with her husband, Brian, trying to get from one port to another over the weekend. And just to put that in perspective, an 8-foot dinghy is really small, which could make for a rough ride depending on the conditions.
She apparently fell overboard while holding the keys to the boat, which immediately shut the engine off. She also wasn't wearing a lifejacket.
Her husband told authorities he couldn’t get to her, which is something a lot of people are having a hard time wrapping their heads around. With a boat that small, you’d think it would be easier to reach her or pull her back in. He ended up paddling the boat back to shore and reported her missing around 4 in the morning.
Search crews have been out there ever since, using boats and drones, but so far, no sign of her.
West Michigan Couple Had Been Living in the Bahamas
Lynette’s daughter says there were “prior issues” that should be looked at as part of the investigation. She also said the two had a history of not getting along, especially when alcohol was involved.
In one interview, she said that when her stepdad called to tell her what happened, he sounded very monotone and calm.

She also made it clear that if this was truly an accident, she could accept that… but only after a full review of what actually happened.
