Heads Up Campers: Michigan State Park Fees Are Going Up in 2025
In a world where streaming fees, grocery prices, and utility bills are going up, you can now add Michigan State Park fees to the list as well. This can be a little frustrating if you're already struggling to make ends meet.
As we endure Michigan's bitter cold temps, many residents are already putting plans together to head up north for some summer camping. Regardless of what your camping plans are, you should know you may be paying a little more to stay at Michigan State Parks. But before we get into what things are going to cost, let's talk about why this is happening.
According to the Michigan DNR, the price hike is all about keeping state parks running smoothly for the long haul. With rising costs for things like utilities, equipment, and staff, the extra cash will help make sure our parks stay awesome for everyone to enjoy.
Again, for all that awesomeness to happen, they say, prices have to go up.
Which Michigan State Parks Will See a Rate Increase?
The Michigan DNR hasn’t specified which particular parks will see fee increases; they’ve only mentioned that the new rates will apply to modern and semi-modern campsites and all overnight lodging across the state park system.
The fee adjustments are a bit confusing, but the DNR says they’re based on market analysis and the amenities offered at each location, so the exact increase will depend on the park and its features.
For example:
- Campsites with modern amenities (like electrical hookups) may see an increase of $4 to $10 per night.
- Lodging fees will range from $60 to $160 per night, with premium fees at high-demand locations (85% or higher occupancy rates).
When Will Michigan's State Park Fees Increase?
Keep in mind, that there won't be an increase in every state park, just some state parks. Those rate increases will go into effect in August 2025.
