The mother of a Michigan teen who tragically died in a high-speed crash last year believes the 16-year-old driver shouldn’t be the only one held accountable. She argues that the driver’s mother should also face charges, even though she wasn’t in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

This is a deeply sensitive topic, especially for those grieving the loss of a child. We often ask, could this tragedy have been prevented? In this case, the answer seems to be yes. The question now is, could anyone else have prevented this, and are they to blame aside from the 16-year-old driver?

According to The Mirror, Kiernan Tague, who was 16 at the time, was driving his 2021 BMW X3 with 18-year-old Flynn Mackrell as a passenger on the night of November 17, 2023. Just minutes after they set off, Tague accelerated to over 100 miles per hour before losing control, striking a lamp post and a tree, with devastating consequences. Flynn died on impact just five minutes after leaving his home.

It’s been a year since 18-year-old Flynn Mackrell tragically lost his life in a crash in Grosse Pointe Farms. But for Flynn's mother, the case is far from closed. She believes justice hasn’t been fully served and is now calling for charges against another person—the mother of the driver.

While Tague, who was driving the car, survived the crash, he is being charged as an adult with second-degree murder. Flynn's mother believes Tague's mother should also be charged. Apparently, Tague's mother was well aware of his history of excessive speeding, as she had an app on her phone that could monitor his speeds. It was also reported on America This Morning that she had told him several times to slow down.

It's believed that Tague's mother could have easily taken his keys away to punish him for his reckless driving. It remains unclear whether she’ll face any charges.

Parents have increasingly come under scrutiny for not addressing their child's behavior and needs, especially after the parents of the Oxford school shooter were found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the tragedy.
