Michigan Lottery Makes Big Change to Cashing Winning Tickets
Even though I’ll probably never win anything from the Michigan Lottery, it’s nice knowing that if I do, cashing in a decent-sized ticket just got a whole lot easier.
The Michigan Lottery recently increased the amount players can redeem at stores and self-service machines across the state.
Michigan Stores Can Now Cash Bigger Lottery Winners
Previously, Michigan Lottery retailers could only cash winning tickets worth up to $600. That limit has now increased to $999.99. Seriously, they couldn’t just make it an even $1,000?

According to MLive, the change means if you somehow hit for $900 on a scratch-off, you won’t have to make an appointment or drive to one of the Lottery’s regional offices. You can take it to one of roughly 10,500 Michigan Lottery retailers across the state.
The limit at self-service Lottery machines also increased from $100 to $500. Just keep in mind, the machine doesn’t hand you $500 in cash. It applies the winnings as credit that can be used to purchase more Lottery tickets.
Where Do You Claim Bigger Michigan Lottery Prizes?
According to the Michigan Lottery, prizes from $1,000 up to $99,999.99 still have to be claimed at a regional office.
If you win $100,000 or more, you’ll have to make an appointment at Lottery headquarters in Lansing. That’s one trip I definitely wouldn’t complain about.
There’s also a change involving taxes. You’ll now get a W-2G when claiming a prize of $2,000 or more at a Lottery Claim Center. Before, you got one for prizes over $600.
