All afternoon and evening events and or activities at the Lapeer County school have been canceled.

So why exactly were students released early today? Lapeer County Schools issued the following statement via Facebook,

Out of an abundance of caution, LHS will be in secure mode pending an investigation which includes a locker sweep.  There is no active threat to the school, nor any student or staff member.

We will remain in secure mode until the completion of the investigation which has been undertaken by the administration in cooperation with local law enforcement.

Rumors are flying on social media as to what exactly the police are looking for at Lapeer High School, but no specific items have been released at this time. You can read the entire press release below.

Although details are vague, what is most important is faculty and law enforcement made the right decision to clear out the students. Keeping kids safe is a top priority, and is appreciated by parents in the community.
