Lapeer Man Arrested After Stabbing Himself and Lying to Police

A Lapeer man is behind bars after lying to police about being stabbed in the abdomen. Police say he actually stabbed himself.

According to ABC 12, 23-year-old Devin Dix told Lapeer police that he had been stabbed at Rowden Park on Friday, August 14, 2026. The injury was so severe that Dix was taken to McLaren Lapeer Region, where he had to have surgery.

The plot thickens. Upon further investigation, authorities determined that he actually stabbed himself at Walmart in Lapeer after allegedly stealing a gaming computer. This sounds like something straight out of a movie or TV show.

According to Thumb Area Headlines, Dix stabbed himself while attempting to cut the straps off the computer. Additional details make this story even more bizarre. The suspect had his children sit on top of the computer as he took it out of the store.

Devin Dix is now facing several charges in connection with the incident. He has been charged with filing a false police report, two counts of fourth-degree child abuse, and one count of first-degree retail fraud.
