If Irish Road is part of your daily drive, you’ve got a little detour to deal with. And unfortunately, this one will stick around through next week.

Crews are working on the railroad crossing between Court Street and Davison Road in Davison Township. It closed Thursday, October 22, and the Genesee County Road Commission says the work should be done Friday, October 30.

The posted detour takes you along Court Street, Gale Road, and Davison Road, or the other way around, depending on where you’re coming from.

Basically, if you normally take Irish straight through there, that’s off the table for now. Give yourself a few extra minutes so you’re not finding that out when you’re already running late.

The closure also changes how you get to the Davison Township Police Department. While the crossing is closed, you’ll need to approach the department from the south side of the tracks.

Police shared the heads-up on Facebook and said they’re “looking forward to some fresh tracks.”

Fair enough. Nobody’s going to complain about a smoother railroad crossing once the work is done. Getting there is just going to be a little annoying.

For now, plan on using the detour through next Friday. October 30 is the expected completion date, so hopefully crews can stick to that schedule.

So, who do you call? If you hit one of these animals, you’ll want to contact the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or local law enforcement. If it’s an actual emergency, call 911; otherwise, just dial the non-emergency number. They’ll handle the situation and make sure everything's squared away. Just don’t forget to report it.
