I knew something was up with my water this morning.

Everything seemed normal when I got up. I ran my sprinklers, took a shower, no problems at all. Then a little later, I went to fill up a water bottle, and suddenly the water pressure at my house dropped big time.

Turns out, I definitely wasn't the only one.

Boil Water Order Issued in Genesee County

According to MLive, a precautionary boil water order has been issued for parts of northern Grand Blanc Township and southern Burton after an equipment failure caused low water pressure in some local water mains Thursday morning.

The Genesee County Drain Commissioner's Office says crews were able to restore the pressure pretty quickly, but anytime a water system loses significant pressure, there's a chance bacteria can get into the system.

According to the county map, the affected area generally runs from Center Road east to Vassar Road, and from around Bristol Road south toward Perry Road, including areas near Maple, Hill, Genesee and Belsay roads.

Because of that, residents in the affected area are being told to boil their water for at least one minute before drinking it, brushing their teeth, making ice, washing dishes, or preparing food. Bottled water is another option.

How Long Will the Boil Water Order Last?

The county says several rounds of water samples will be collected and tested over the next 48 hours.

The boil order will remain in place until those samples confirm the water is safe.

You may also notice some discoloration in your water after the pressure was restored. If that happens, officials recommend running the water for two to three minutes.

So yeah, if your water pressure suddenly disappeared this morning like mine did, now we know why.
