Looks Like Costco Won’t Be Coming to This Michigan City After All
Many Michigan shoppers are willing to travel long distances to shop at Costco Wholesale. They love its low prices, a unique and large selection of products, free samples, and a number of other reasons.
So you can only imagine how disappointed residents are feeling after finding out that plans to build a Costco Wholesale in Fruitport Township were recently scrapped.
Plans to build a Costco Wholesale in Fruitport Township, located just south of Muskegon, were initially proposed back in July. A month later, those plans were approved after receiving support from the community.
Why is Costco Wholesale Not Building the Approved Fruitport Township Location?
According to WZZM 13, Costco may be built at a later time when the corporation has fewer ongoing projects.
It seems strange that the project would go as far as a public hearing and approval of a site plan for the store, only to be denied a month later. Regardless, at least it's still a possibility down the road.
Fruitport Township Supervisor Todd Dunham:
The developers like the community. They like the site. It sounds like it’s just a matter of timing. They’ve told us that Fruitport still ranks near the top of their list for future stores, so we are hopeful that we will be talking to them again very soon.
Is Costco Wholesale Still Coming to Genesee County?
As far as we know, there are still plans for Costco to break ground in Mundy Township in the spring of 2024 and to be open by the end of that year.
