Bizarre Weather Pattern Could Make December a Mess in Michigan

Something weird is happening way above the North Pole right now, and believe it or not, it could mess with Michigan’s December weather. And yeah, probably not in a good way.

Alright, so, I’m no meteorologist, but when I keep seeing reports about rare weather patterns that could potentially mess with Michigan, yeah, I pay attention.

According to WDIV, about 20 miles up in the atmosphere, temps are suddenly skyrocketing. Sounds pretty awesome at first, right? Not so much. This is not normal for this time of year. It’s a rare event that can weaken the big pocket of freezing air that usually stays locked over the Arctic. And apparently, when that happens, that cold air just casually drifts south and yep, straight into the Great Lakes and Michigan.

If this plays out the way forecasters think it might, Michigan could be looking at a colder start to December than usual. We are talking stretches of temps well below normal, not just a random chilly morning.

When that bitter air moves over the still-warm Great Lakes, it sets the table for lake effect snow, too. And we all know how that goes. Some areas will get hammered while others just get some flurries.

More cold and more snow mean slick roads, slower drives, and the usual school delay roulette. Wind could also crank up a bit, which turns snow into a blowing mess and makes visibility even worse.
