We've reached the time of year in Michigan when many residents begin questioning their decision to call our fair state home. Though relatively mild when compared to past winters, this year's January is off to a hand-numbing start.

Maybe you're like me in that you don't mind the snow, ice, or less-than-desirable driving conditions on their own. It's when they are coupled with icy temperatures and Michigan's dreaded WINDCHILL that I seriously consider southern migration.

If you've wondered to yourself "When will all this chilly chaos end?", as I have since the first 'minus' or 'below' was put in front of a forecasted temperature, then you are probably curious what February has in store? For that, we turn to the experts at the Farmers Almanac, and their Great Lakes, Ohio Valley & Midwest Long Range Weather Forecast for January 22nd to February 21st:

  • 1st - 3rd
    Rain and snow, especially over the OH Valley.
  • 4th - 7th
    Colder, with snow.
  • 8th - 11th
    Snow showers, squalls, blustery winds. Then very cold.
  • 12th - 15th
    Unseasonably cold weather prevails. Scattered snow showers.
  • 16th - 19th
    Residual snow showers/flurries Presidents Day holiday.

Not the ray of sunshine you were hoping for? Brace yourself, it gets worse.

The Farmers Almanac goes on to say in their Spring Forecast for 2024 that skiers should rejoice, as it's going to be a "Polar Coaster" Spring for much of the United States and that Michigan can expect the chill to stick around well into March.

There is even heavy snow predicted for Easter in the Mid-West, which falls on March 31 this year. If you're not a fan of the Farmer's Almanac prediction at least you have a groundhog's opinion to look forward to!
