Deserted Buildings of Spartan Village, MSU: East Lansing, Michigan
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.
MSU's Spartan Village ain't what it used to be. Currently, while driving thru the area, the once-bustling community now seems all but deserted.
So what gives? According to perkinswill.com, MSU's plan is to “transform the former student housing district into a vibrant, walkable, urban destination. Its wide range of uses includes residential, office, retail, hospitality, athletic/recreation, and research. Slated to be built out over 30 years or more...”
Spartan Village was used as student housing that MSU sees as “no longer viable from a facility condition and financial perspective”.
Once the new plan is completed, they are expecting around 2,600 residents, 4,750+ employees, and up to 5,000 visitors per day.
Spartan Village was constructed during the 1950s and 60s and its life expectancy has passed. Maintenance, repairs, and upkeep are currently just too expensive.
Yes, this is just a brief tease, but if you want to learn more about what is going on over there, check out the Perkins & Will website. Meantime, take a look at the gallery below to see what a deserted Spartan Village looks like in 2024...
