“Meet-cha at the Big Boy, meetcha at the Big Boy – our favorite place to eat!” so went the old commercials for Big Boy.....it WAS - and still IS - one of my favorite places to eat.
There are two local Big Boys that I used to go to...the one across the street north of Frandor, and the other on West Avenue in Jackson. And BOTH are gone. Thank goodness there's one in Mason, where I go many times for breakfast.
According to a 2016 article on Mlive regarding the Jackson Big Boy, “customers found locked doors and turned off lights when they arrived, with no sign explaining why.” The only explanation came from an unnamed man who said “he was not at liberty to say who purchased the building.” Some explanation.
Did Bob's Big Boy ever open at the old Zeus Restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue?
Whatever reason Big Boys across the country close, as long as there are still some around, I'll be satisfied. Meantime, we're gonna take a look at a closed Big Boy Restaurant in Bay City, as seen in the gallery below...
