This Michigan Restaurant Claims They’ve Been Evicted For No Reason
You hate to see a locally owned restaurant that people cherish close down, but it happens all the time, especially since the pandemic. One restaurant in Paw Paw that people have loved for a long time is the Cancun Mexican Restaurant, which recently announced that they were allegedly unexpectedly evicted for no reason.
In a Facebook post made on August 12, they explained how they have been many changes in the village of papa that at the end of August the restaurant would be closed. This is a challenge that has shook the owners and has taken a few days to process to put into words, exactly, what happened.
Long story short... we got evicted. We did nothing wrong. We payed on time every month, everything that needed to be done with the building we took care of... but despite of that, Dave gave us less then 30 days to clear out and leave. He heard the Cooper Grille was closing down and saw the opportunity to try and open his own breakfast place... good for him. We do wish him the best but definitely are in shock and heartbroken.
Despite being kicked out, the owners continued to show their love for the community that's helped make them successful:
We have always loved Paw Paw. When we found the opportunity to rent from Billy Key (Owner of the building) it was the opportunity of a life time. He has been nothing but sweet and generous with us. We will always be grateful to him.
But Were They Given Enough Notice?
Someone in the comment section of the post, Jessecca Bowler, claims that, indeed, the restaurant WAS given enough notice, and that they're misinforming the public, as the fault falls on them:
The reason you are being evicted is because the restaurant refused to sign a new lease because they were already looking for a new location. He was offered a new lease back in February and refused to sign. Copper Grill closing had absolutely nothing to do with it, that simply fell on timing!! Again!! Cancun was given a full 30 day notice
