Indiana Jones fans are a tough crowd to please. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford put the perfect cap on a trilogy with ‘The Last Crusade.’ Fans ask for more. So the team reunites for ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,’ and nobody likes it. We want more. Can we expect a fifth ‘Indiana Jones,’ as is often rumored? Producer Frank Marshall has an update.

It doesn’t look great. Marshall spoke to Collider while promoting ‘The Bourne Legacy’ (which he also produced) and said that at the moment, ‘Crystal Skull’ looks like the last chapter in the series.

I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah. I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.

Lucas likes to tease the media with the promise of a great story idea for a fifth Indiana Jones movie. But it’s just that: A tease. Ford’s getting older. No one wants the further adventures of Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) and his digital monkeys. Of course, everything could change at a moment’s notice of Spielberg, Lucas and Ford get the itch to deliver a perfect closing chapter on this beloved franchise. But for the moment, all indications are that Indy is retired … and he’s likely to stay that way for a long while.
