The Salvation Army Bell Ringers are going to be out with their red kettles a little longer than normal this year.

Normally the Salvation Army stops their annual fund raising campaign right after Christmas, but this year is especially difficult. With more store fronts being closed, and more people opting to shop online, the Red Kettle's have been emptier than ever. The Salvation Army has also had a hard time finding bell ringers this year.

So just how bad is it? According to WNEM, this is the toughest year in nearly 40 years.

The reason that this is such a big deal, is that the Salvation Army does one fundraiser a year . . . and this is it.  The goal of $800,000 funds programs for the entire year, and if the goal is not reached, those programs are at risk.

The Salvation Army has decided to keep the bell ringers out until Friday December 29th to try an make up the difference. Right now they are at about 70% of their goal.

If you are a big online shopper and haven't had the chance to drop some money in to one of the red kettles, you can always donate online. Just click on the kettle below to make an online donation to the Salvation Army of Genesee County.
