Flint Township residents were dismayed yesterday when they stopped by the clerk's office, only to find that it was closed for "building maintenance."
A reporter for ABC 12 reached out to the clerk, Kathy Funk, through email and was told that an employee at the office had tested positive for COVID-19, and the building was in the process of being cleaned and disinfected. Employees were being rapidly tested; luckily, all but one came back as negative.
The clerk's office has reopened as of this morning at 8 AM. They will also be open this Saturday, October 31, from 8-4 p.m. for the "sole purpose of issuing ballots."
“With just eight days left before the election, this is not a good time. However, the health and safety of our residents and employees is paramount," Funk told ABC 12.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of 2020, and we should all be used to it by now. Things are going to happen; people are going to get sick unexpectedly. The worst mistake that we can all make is to assume that everything will resume as "normal" anytime soon. Make a plan to vote, which also includes a contingency plan in case something like this happens again in the next week.
