Fire Breaks Out at 2019 Coachella Festival
The first night of the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival featured some heat but not the kind people were expecting. On Friday night (April 12), a fire broke out at the annual music showcase in Indio, Calif.
The flames erupted last night near the campground where the festival is held. According to ABC7 Los Angeles, witnesses say they heard loud booms and immediately saw public showers bathed in flames. Firefighters responded to the emergency and quickly blocked off the area.
Attendees captured video of the wild scene and posted it to social media. One clip shows a huge tower of flames rising from the bathroom area while authorities command people to vacate the scene. The Riverside County Fire Department has reported the cause for the fire as a mechanical failure of the heating unit used for water. Fire crews were able to put out the flames and reported no injuries were sustained.
It's set to be another big year at Coachella. Childish Gambino, Kid Cudi, Anderson .Paak, Juice Wrld, Pusha-T, Khalid, Bad Bunny, YG, Playboi Carti, H.E.R, Blood Orange, Kaytranada, SOB X RBE, Rico Nasty, Jaden Smith, Tierra Whack, JPEGMafia, Wiz Khalifa, Sheck Wes, Virgil Abloh, Smino, TDE's SiR, Murda Beatz, Ella Mai, J. Balvin and more are performing at the bucket-list event. Kanye West was initially slated to headline the showcase before pulling out.
