If you were hoping to watch the annual Ford Fireworks display this year, I've got good news and bad news. The good news, the fireworks display will happen this year. The bad news, you can only watch it from your couch as the fireworks display can only be watched from your TV.

For the second year in a row, the public will not be allowed to watch the fireworks in person when they are launched off at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township. I mean technically you could watch if you happen to live in the area there but the park itself will be closed to the public.

According to The Detroit News, the largest fireworks display in the state will air in a broadcast-only format Monday on WDIV. The 26-minute show will start just after 10 p.m. and feature more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects choreographed to music.

If you think watching fireworks on TV is lame as hell, I couldn't agree more. Nobody wants to do that, people want to be with people, especially this year.

Why is this happening?

Tony Michaels, president and CEO of the Parade Company said he met with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan multiple times to discuss the event but it sounds like he wasn't happy with the vaccination rates and made the decision months ago.

He wanted people to be safe and wanted things to be right, which is how he makes every decision. We fully understood. Everybody has a responsibility...We're committed to doing what's right.

If it's a tradition to go to Detroit every year to watch the fireworks, you'll just have to go somewhere else or watch it on the ol' boob tube. For the younger generation, that means TV.

The show is expected to return to downtown Detroit next year.
