MLK Day is more than just a holiday, because it's a call to action. We look forward to most holidays because it means a day off of work or school. MLK Day is a holiday where we look forward to helping others, and spreading Dr King's message.

The United Way of Genesee County is gathering hundreds of volunteers to help those in need in Genesee County. The event is summed on on the Facebook page,

Dr. King believed that many social ills could be defeated through citizen service. Recognizing that 1 in 5 Genesee County families deal with hunger, we are setting out to combat this by engaging neighbors to help neighbors.

The United Way is having volunteers gather at the Dort Federal Event Center from 9am -12n to put together care packages for families in need in our area.

The Flint Public Library is hosting MLK Day Craft activities for kids. Kids will be able to make a peace dove craft that can hang in their house. The activity will be going on today from 1-2pm at the Library, and is free to the public.

University of Michigan Flint is hosting the More Than A Day breakfast and day of service. The breakfast starts at 8am on the campus, and there is a list of schedule volunteering events here.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County is hosting their Extraordinary Life event at Diplomat Pharmacy this morning.

Congressman Dan Kildee will be there, and Charles Coleman Jr. Is the keynote speaker.
