Joe Louis Arena has been closed for over a year now, and people have been wondering what they are going to do with all the memorabilia inside. After being fairly quiet about the topic, an announcement has been made via Crain's Detroit Business that an auction begins today for the 18,000 seats inside Joe Louis Arena.

In September of 2017, you could purchase vials of melted ice from the last Red Wings game played at the Joe, but no mention at that point of the seats. Now they are up for auction, and really, they aren't too expensive. If you were a season ticket holder at The Joe, you can purchase your season ticket seats starting at $200 per seat. If you would like a general seat, those start at $150 per seat with a two-seat minimum.

If you spent a lot of time at Joe Louis Arena, having two seats is a cool thing, and for $300 you can do it! If you were not a season ticket holder, you can begin purchasing seats on May 12th.

Crain's Detroit Business says there will be separate auctions for other items from the Joe. They have everything from the scoreboard to furniture, lights, plumbing, even Steve Yzerman's urinal. The proceeds from the auction will go to offset the cost of maintaining the arena, then there will be an undisclosed amount donated to three Detroit charities.

If you want to grab one of the 18,000 seats expected to sell, the auction information is here.
