AJ’s 31 Days of Horror Movies – ‘House of 1000 Corpses’

There are some horror films that stick with you for some twisted, creepy reason, and this one has stuck with me for YEARS. Without giving away too much, the "bury me in a nameless grave" scene MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL and I can't even.

House of 1000 Corpses is the first of Rob Zombie's trilogy of films about the super-sick Firefly family. I haven't seen the finale, 3 From Hell yet; it'll be back in theaters for ONE DAY on October 14th and I'll see it when it comes out to stream.

This movie has so many moving parts that you'll need to watch it multiple times to experience it all. You may not WANT to watch multiple times, however. The film begins with Captain Spaulding's Museum of Monsters & Madmen and the ride that introduces us to Dr. Satan; it then winds its way into a story about some missing cheerleaders and a broken-down car full of kids on a road trip.

The film got mixed reviews when it came out but went on to become a cult favorite of horror aficionados. It's dark (literally; most of the movie takes place at night), it's gory, it's sick and twisted and I'm not ashamed to say that it's one of my all-time favorites.
