Michigan's Fifth District Congressman Dan Kildee was elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve as Regional Whip for the Midwest Region in the 114th Congress. According to a news release from Kildee's office, the new and expanded role will position Kildee to advocate for the Midwest region in Congress as well as assist the Democratic leadership in managing legislative business on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kildee said he is "honored that my colleagues elected me to serve as Regional Whip. The Midwest is truly a reflection of the best of America and I look forward to making sure our region's interests are represented in Congress." He added "it's my hope that in the coming Congress, Democrats and Republicans will work together to promote economic growth and pass 'Make it in America' legislation to support American companies creating high-wage, high-skill jobs here, not overseas.

Of Kildee, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said Kildee "is a strong leader for Michigan and the Midwest, and this election reflects the respect he enjoys from his peers in the region. I look forward to working with him to advance priorities important to families and businesses in the Midwest and throughout our nation."
