The Detroit Tigers lost their opening game in the series with the first place Cleveland Indians last night, 5-3.

Once again, the Tigers struggled at the plate. Detroit, still without Austin Jackson, scored their only runs on Alex Avila's three-run home run in the second inning. Their only potential for a rally was in the ninth inning when a runner was on first and they trailed by two. Miguel Cabrera struck out and Prince Fielder grounded into a game ending force.

Starter Rick Porcello also struggled, allowing four earned runs in six innings of work before being pulled. This was the fifth time in his last seven starts that he didn't make a quality start.

According to the Detroit Free Press, after the game the Tigers announced they had recalled speedy, outfielder Quintin Berry from Triple-A Toledo.
