Detroit Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque had surgery on his elbow Thursday and is expected to be out until the All-Star break.

According to the Detroit News, Alburquerque had a screw inserted into his elbow to help stabilize a stress fracture. The surgery is similar to what fellow reliever Joel Zumaya had done.

The hard throwing Alburquerque struck out 63 in 47.1 innings of work last season.
