Three people are dead after a gunman walked into a Indiana grocery store and fatally shot two people before being killed by police.

According to WNEM, Elkhart police got a call about an active shooter at Martin's Supermarket around 10 p.m. Wednesday. In a news conference authorities said the gunman used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot and kill one woman, and then walked into another aisle where he shot and killed another woman. One victim was an employee and the other was a shopper.

Two police officers at a call nearby were able to quickly respond to the scene. They found the gunman pointing his gun at a third person and shot and killed him. A large knife was found by the gunman who was in his early 20s. The identities of the victims and the gunman have yet to be released. The Indiana State Police will investigate the incident due to the Elkhart Police Department being involved in the shooting.

Elkhart, Indiana is just south of the Michigan-Indiana border and is about 15 miles east of South Bend.
