We've heard quite a bit about 'The Simpsons'' twenty-fifth season, from its rich vein of celebrity guest stars, to the 'Homeland' parody that gripped this past Sunday's premiere, but is the spectre of death once again lurking about Springfield? Like Maude Flanders before, it seems one long-running 'Simpsons' character has been targeted for a permanent exit for the aging animation staple.

News of another 'Simpsons' character to be killed off comes to us from executive producer Al Jean, by way of a recent reporter conference call. "I'll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is," Jean said of the potential, without having to say that near every major voice actor has won an Emmy for their contributions. The last major 'Simpsons' character to face the ax is well remembered as Maude Flanders, who still manages to make the occasional flashback appearance over the course of her 17-year demise.

Elsewhere, ‘The Simpsons’ season 25 will feature appearances from returning ‘Parks and Recreation‘ star Amy Poehler, ‘Harry Potter’ vet Daniel Radcliffe, ‘Arrested Development‘ star Will Arnett, ‘Mad Men‘ star Elisabeth Moss, comic legend Stan Lee, and ‘The Newsroom‘ creator and acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin. Horror master Guillermo del Toro designed the upcoming "Treehouse of Horror" opening credits as well, incorporating references to history's most famous horror icons.

Well, what say you? Will the latest 'Simpsons' death hit us as hard as Maude did the first time around? Who do you think is next for animation oblivion?
