The Michigan State Police (MSP) and Genesee County Sheriff's Department are jointly investigating a police-involved shooting that happened Monday morning near the intersection on North Dort Highway and Carpenter Road in Flint.

Around 10 a.m., a Mt. Morris Township police officer observed a vehicle involved in a carjacking the previous night in Grand Blanc Township. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle crashed at the corner of North Dort Highway and Carpenter Road.

Officers from several agencies arrived on the scene after the crash including the MSP, Flint Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff's Department and Mt. Morris Township Police Department.

The suspect exited the vehicle and opened fire on the police. Officers returned fire and the suspect was killed. The identification of the suspect has yet to be released.

No police officers were injured during the shootout and the incident remains under investigation.
