State Rep. Ananich to Participate in Legislative Polar Plunge
State Representative Jim Ananich will be participating in the first annual Legislative Polar Plunge alongside other Michigan legislators on the Capitol Lawn this Thursday, February 23 to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan athletes. State Represntatives Ananich, Barb Byrum, Kevin Cotter, State Senator Rick Jones and nearly 40 other lawmakers are part of the legislative polar plunge line-up.
When Ananich reaches his personal fundraising goal to support the event, he has committed to plunging in a tennis-themed outfit to acknowledge his days on the tennis team at Flint Central High School. A recent polar plunge event in Fenton raised more then $35,000 for this important cause. The Legislative Polar Plunge is one of 27 Special Olympics Michigan Polar Plunges planned throughout the state from January to March 2012.
The Polar Plunge is made possible by the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a group of police officers and corrections personnel committed to raising fund and awareness for SOMI. Proceed from the Polar Plunge support the year-round sports training and athletic competition for 21,754 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who live in Michigan.
