To help families prepare before a disaster, the Michigan State Police (MSP) is partnering with Target and local first responders to host a Prepare Fair on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. located at the Target store at G3515 Miller Rd. in Flint, Mich. The Prepare Fair is being hosted in recognition of National Preparedness Month (NPM) during September.

Families are encouraged to attend the Prepare Fair to learn simple ways to get prepared before an emergency or disaster occurs, including how to develop a family emergency plan, create an emergency supply kit, perform basic first aid, volunteer to help prepare their communities and more. The Prepare Fair will take place in the Target store parking lot and attendance is free of charge.

“The Prepare Fair is a great opportunity for individuals, especially children, to meet their local first responders and learn about the importance of being ready for all types of emergencies, such as severe flooding that affected Genesee County earlier this year,” said Capt. W. Thomas Sands, commander of the MSP Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD). “The Michigan State Police is proud to partner with Target to host such an important event dedicated to helping prepare and protect Michigan residents.”

During the fair, individuals will have an opportunity to:

  • Learn how to prepare before, during and after an emergency
  • Receive free preparedness items, including weather radios and emergency supply kits
  • Participate in kid-friendly preparedness activities
  • Learn basic first aid techniques
  • Explore emergency response vehicles
  • Meet local first responders and volunteers
