On Wednesday, Governor Snyder called a special election to fill the vacancy in the 49th District in the state House of Representatives. The seat became available when former state Rep. Jim Ananich was sworn in as state senator for the 27th District.

In a statement Snyder said "this special election will ensure area residents have full representation in the Legislature as quickly as possible while coinciding with certain previously scheduled elections to ensure minimized financial burdens to local communities in this district."

The special election will be Tuesday, November 5th, and if necessary, a primary election would be held on August 6th.
