Sigourney Weaver Confirmed For a Cameo in the ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot
Just the other day, as we were writing about the Ghostbusters reboot, we noted that Sigourney Weaver was the only one of the core actors from the original film (minus Rick Moranis who has since retired) who was not going to be appearing in the new Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig version. But, as it turns out, Weaver will be appearing in the new Ghostbusters movie, alongside fellow original cast members Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts.
Director Paul Feig made the announcement on his Twitter page, saying they wanted to keep it secret, but got a tip that it was going to leak.
Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I'll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!

At this point, the only remaining surprise left would be if they were somehow able to convince Rick Moranis to return to acting after leaving Hollywood behind in 1997. Moranis spoke out in 2013 about returning for a new Ghostbusters film saying, “I wouldn’t not do it, but it’s got to be good.”
While we know know that the majority of the cast will be returning for the new Ghostbusters, we still don’t know what roles they’ll be playing. Feig has repeatedly said that the new film reboots the mythology and takes place in a world where the original Ghostbusters — Venkman, Egon, Ray and Winston — never existed. So, how do you work all these actors into a film without also distracting from the movie? It’s an interesting question, one we hope Feig has found an equally as interesting answer to.
The news comes just a day after Feig had some words with fans of the original movie who are upset about his reboot. After telling a particularly vocal and negative group “go f–- yourself”, Feig explained himself later saying, “I read all your tweets & love them. Thanks for the continuing support. I just suddenly hit the wall with the haters.”
Ghostbusters opens in theaters on July 15, 2016.
