State Senator Dave Robertson (R - Grand Blanc Township) and State Representative Bradford Jacobsen (R - Oxford) are hosting a town hall meeting regarding Senate Bill 52 and its companion House Bill 4036, which would allow local units of government to lower speed limits on gravel roads.

The bill is in response to legislation passed in 2006 which changed gravel road speed limits, in some instances from 25 to 55 miles per hour, and sets the speed limit on gravel roads at 55 if otherwise unmarked. The previous maximum for unmarked roads was 45 miles per hour. Townships and school officials are concerned with the increase in speed, as it could pose a harm to inexperienced drivers and children waiting for the school bus near the road.

In a meeting with Atlas Township Supervisor Shirley Kautman-Jones, Atlas Township was looking into supporting this legislation. Brandon Schools already passed a resolution in support of this legislation this past summer.

The town hall will be held Wednesday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m. at Brandon Middle School, 609 South Ortonville Road in Ortonville. Also attending will be members of the State Police. Questions should be directed to Jon Farley in Sen. Robertson's office at (517) 373-1636.
