Sea Smoke Rolls In Off Lake Superior [VIDEO]

Sea smoke was spotted rolling in off Lake Superior yesterday. Sea smoke happens when bitterly cold air moves over warmer water. We can all agree that we have been hit with some extra cold air the last couple of days. According to WNEM, the temperature of Lake Superior is still in the 30s, which is considerably warmer than the air temperature the last few days. Sea smoke is like steam coming off warm food, it is water evaporating from the warmer water to the colder air. The water vapor increases the humidity as it evaporates creating a fog or smoke effect. At least we have something cool to look at while our faces freeze off this week.
