The Salvation Army has extended taking applications for Christmas assistance from today through Wednesday, November 27th from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for Genesee County residents.

Those in need of help with toys, food and clothing for the holiday season can apply for assistance at The Salvation Army at 211 W/ Kearsley Street in downtown Flint. No appointment is necessary.

The Salvation Army's Christmas assistance program is intended to help those who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas. To sign up for help, applicants must bring the following documents:

  • Current ID for all adults in the household - Social Security cards or a print out from the Social Security office dated within 30 days and Michigan drivers' licenses or Michigan ID's.
  • Proof of dependents in the home - birth certificates and Social Security cards or a print out from the Social Security office dated within 30 days (must be parent or provide proof of legal guardianship).
  • Current bills - bills must contain the name and address of the individual applying for assistance. Current bills include rent, mortgage, water, gas, electric, phone, cable, etc.
  • Proof of income - pay stubs, child support payments, Social Security, SSI, SSDI, DHS statement, unemployment/workmans comp, etc.
