A St. Clair County jury this afternoon found Brandon Hayes, 27, guilty on all ten counts in the murder of his then live-in-girlfriend's 4-year-old son, Dominick Calhoun. Prosecutor Leyton charged Hayes with beating Dominick to death in an Argentine Township apartment over the course of a four-day period in April 2010.

The jury found Hayes guilty on all counts against him, including felony murder, torture, two counts of first-degree child abuse, and related assault and various drug charges. Hayes was also convicted as a fourth-time habitual offender.

"We're gratified by the jury's decision and feel it is justice for Dominick," said Leyton after the verdict was read. He added "we hope this will bring some closure for Dominick's family."

The child's death generated much public outcry and resulted in the selection of a jury from St. Clair County due to pre-trial publicity and media attention. Jury selection, opening and closing arguments, and the verdict were held in St. Clair County. Witness testimony in the trial took place in the Genesee County Courthouse.

A tentative sentencing date has been set for February 27th in Genesee County.
