Authorities have confirmed that Michigan prison escapee Michael David Elliott has been apprehended by Indiana police officers and is now in custody.

Elliott was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. on Monday night after police received a report of a stolen car in Middlebury and LaPorte Counties in Indiana. LaPorte County officers were able to locate the suspect in the stolen vehicle and after a brief chase, Elliott was arrested and taken into custody.

Elliott, who was serving four life sentences for murder, escaped from the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Ionia Correctional Facility during the evening hours of Sunday, February 2nd. Elliott carjacked a local woman and drove south. The woman was able to escape and notify law enforcement while the two were stopped at a gas station just south of the Michigan/Indiana state line.
