Steven Nusbaum, 65, of Illinois was flying his experimental aircraft on Tuesday when the unthinkable happened — he suffered a heart-attack mid-flight.

Still, he was able to land safely in a field, where he was promptly met by paramedics. Rescue used a defibrillator before rushing him to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center, where he’s currently in critical condition.

Chance Nusbaum, his son, was watching the flight and said his father was lying back in his seat when he reached him. He added that the plane was left undamaged during the “beautiful landing.”
