Fifth Congressional District Representative Dan Kildee has announced that over $3.2 million in federal grants are coming to mid-Michigan. The grants - from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's 2015 Capital Fund - have been awarded to local-area housing commissions in Genesee, Saginaw, Bay and Iosco Counties and will help to modernize and develop public housing in multiple cities across Kildee's district.

Of the grants, Kildee said they "are welcome news to help rebuild, repair and renovate public housing in cities like Flint, Saginaw, Bay City and East Tawas. These funds will help make our neighborhoods stringer and ensure that our communities have quality, affordable housing."

The federal grants announced will be issued to: the Flint Housing Commission, which was awarded $1,667,181;  the Bay City Housing Commission, which was awarded $768,742; the Bay County Housing Department, which was awarded $86,139; the East Tawas Housing Commission, which was awarded $34,573 and the Saginaw Housing Commission which was awarded $638,768.
