Over 230 teachers will be laid off after the Flint school board approved the move on Tuesday. According to MLive, the move is expected to help the district avoid a $20 million shortfall next year.

Earlier this month, the board voted to close both middle schools and shut down two of the elementary schools, Bunche and Summerfield.

Elementary schools will now host students in K-6 and the three high school buildings will have students in grades 7-12.
