Remeber the Florida election recount in 2000? The one that let to George W Bush winning the presidency over Al Gore? After that debacle, the federal government gave each state money to purchase new voting equipment, and Michigan has cashed in their money and upgraded. Yes, it's been 17 years since the state has had the money to upgrade the machines, but according to Ruth Johnson, Michigan lawmakers decided to save up the $30 million until now.

According to WNEM, the new voting equipment has tested well with early voters. The new machines will not only be more secure, but easier to use for voters. The new machines will be found in more than 60 Michigan counties beginning August 2018.
