The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has approved a new test using a radioactive dye called Amyvid, that will help with the detection of Alzheimer's disease.

According to Fox News, the dye will bind to clumps of a toxic protein called beta amyloid that accumulates in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's. Doctors will be able to see the dye light up during a positive emission tomography, or PET scan.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease. The mind robbing disease affects more then 35 million people and gets worse with age.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think this test will go a long way in helping to detect Alzheimer's? Do you know someone with Alzheimer's?
