‘National Sheriff of the Year’ Thrown In Jail Named After Him

Sheriff Pat Sullivan
Arapahoe County Sheriff

Based on a recent arrest in Denver, CO, no one is above the law, not even a former police officer who was the National Sheriff Association’s Sheriff of the Year in 2001.

Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan was arrested after a drug task-force team caught him delivering methamphetamine to a man in Aurora, CO and then seeking sex in return, while under surveillance. He’s now being held on $250,000 bond in the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility, a jail that was named after him.

Sullivan faces a single charge of unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance, and, if found guilty, could receive a maximum punishment of six years in prison. He retired from the police force in 2002 after being the sheriff of the Denver-area county since 1984.

Current Sheriff Grayson Robinson said it was a sad event and added, “This shows that no one is above the law, particularly a current or a former peace officer.”
