An Imlay City family has a new kitten -- a kitten that survived being stuck in a car engine for the better part of a day.

Jamie Ward tells WJRT that she heard meows coming from her engine compartment. The family tried but was unable to coax the feline out. After several hours passed, the family assumed the kitten had freed herself.

"It was a couple hours later and I didn't hear it anymore and I couldn't see her anymore so I thought she had finally gotten out."

Jamie drove to her job in Burton, and after an eight-hour shift once again heard the familiar purr. She then was able to free the kitten who seemed to be unfazed and without a scratch.

The family named their new pet 'Furiosa,' after a character in the movie 'Mad Max: Fury Road.'
