Human trafficking has been an increasing problem in Michigan, and the Michigan State Police are trying to educate people about it on Facebook today.

MSP Trooper Amy Belanger is going to host an open discussion about the human trafficking problem in Michigan today. The discussion will be a Q&A style forum held on the Michigan State Police Facebook page at 10am.

The goal is to answer any questions that you may have, and provide resources to use if you suspect someone is a victim of human trafficking. There is a human trafficking hotline that you could also call if needed, the number is (888)-373-7888.

There have been a rash up human trafficking stories over the last few years in Michigan. Most people try to discount these stories, but year after year Michigan is near the top of list when it comes to human trafficking.

I don't know what it is about our state that makes it easier for human trafficking. I think that would be my first question for Officer Belanger. Is it something that we are doing that makes it easier for criminals, or are there other reasons this is such a problem in Michigan?

The discussion starts at 10am today, and you can take part by going to the MSP Facebook page here.
