One of Michigan's most wanted sex offenders, 66-year-old Wallace Heffernan, has been arrested in Illinois.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) announced the arrest of Heffernan on Wednesday after receiving an anonymous tip as to his whereabouts. Heffernan had been featured on the Michigan's Most Wanted Sex Offenders website.

Heffernan was arrested for an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with with the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. He had been convicted in 2002 on one count of Accosting Children for Immoral Purposes.

Michigan's Sex Offenders Registration Act requires offenders convicted of felony-listed offenses to verify their address at a local law enforcement agency every quarter. They are also required to report a change of address when moving or vacating a residence. Failure to do so can result in a felony conviction with a punishment ranging from four to ten years.
