University of Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon has resigned. University President Mark Schlissel announced Brandon's resignation during a Friday afternoon press conference. The embattled Brandon had been athletic director since 2010. His departure comes amid a dismal football season and concerns about player safety to student ticket prices and seating at games. Before taking over as athletic director, Brandon was a former university regent. He stepped down from his position as Domino's Pizza CEO to take over the athletics department at his alma mater. Brandon played football at Michigan under legendary coach Bo Schembechler. Schlissel announced that Jim Hackett, who graduated from Michigan in 1977, would be appointed interim athletic director.
